about avenue practice
My name is Simone Lee and I set up avenue
practice as a single-handed practice to offer therapy and counselling and
supervision, training and consultancy services to individuals, organisations and
businesses in the private and charity sector. I draw on a wide range of
skills and experience. Prior to working full-time in therapeutically related
activities, I worked in various industries both in the UK and overseas, and for
15 years worked exclusively in business and charity environments developing
software and business solutions. This background has served me well in my
managerial roles for charitable organisations where I have married the
interesting partnership of therapy and business.
referral network of registered
practitioners
Having a competent network or highly
skilled people, will help ensure that your needs are met when you contact
Avenue Practice. The referral network comprises colleagues and people with whom
I am professionally linked, all of whom are experienced and registered
through reputable bodies such as the UKCP, BACP, BPS etc. All these registering
bodies have ethical codes, mandatory requirements of practitioners and complaint
mechanisms to protect you and the registrants. As registrants we are always
accountable for our work.
quality practice and quality services
Continued professional development (CPD) is
important for maintaining quality practice and strongly encouraged by, if not
mandatory for, registering bodies. CPD can take many forms such as
attending conferences and seminars, writing papers, reading literature,
attending trainings and participating in professional activities and meetings.
CPD is part of the commitment made by myself and those who opt to work in
therapy-related professions. It helps us maintain high levels of competency and
to be aware of and alive to different areas of personal and professional
learning - these gains help us be more effective and helpful in our encounters
with you. Regular and challenging supervision is another way that I aim to
ensure that my work is always subject to scrutiny, of a high ethical standard
and that I am engaging with you to your fullest advantage.
At avenue practice, I aim
always to deliver quality and supportive therapy and therapeutic services.

background
& experience
synopsis
I have been
practising as a counsellor/therapist since 1995 and am
experienced in short-term, long term and crisis work with adult individuals and
couples. I have worked in managerial roles in clinical placement
settings and offer
consultancy
in most aspects of running a counselling service.
A significant part of my work is also to supervise, train and run groups.
Additionally, I offer assessments, crisis intervention and existential and cross-theory individual and group supervision.
Prior to 1995 I worked for many years for large corporations, and, since 2000, I
have worked extensively in mental health and educational settings, private
practice, in an alcohol agency and have supervised work based in an great range
of therapeutic settings. Since 2002, I have worked
in educational institutions that offer professional courses in psychotherapy and
counselling, where, from Foundation to Post-Professional
level, I supervise, run groups, offer personal tutelage and teach counselling
skills and theory.
In my
private practice based in Finchley (near to the Northern Line
tube station) and Central London (Baker Street, Regent’s Park: W1 and NW1) I offer psychotherapy to
individuals and couples and clinical supervision; I can meet at other places by
special arrangement. I offer Skype and online work too in my International
Practice.
values
and diversity
An important
value for me in my personal and professional life is to embrace and discover
differences among people, and I have been fortunate to have encountered and
worked with a rich array of people from many cultures and backgrounds who
represent a wide diversity of attitudes, personal circumstances, educational
backgrounds and ways of orientating themselves in the world sexually,
politically and socially.
To provide access to therapy and
counselling to a wide group of people, I do reserve a few low cost places.
range of issues worked with
The range of
issues I work with is wide and various and inevitably expanding. Some seek therapy simply for a
deeper reflection on their lives, as a philosophical enterprise. The typical
issues I work with that draw people to therapy are depression, anxiety, relationship issues,
bereavement, trauma, abuse, sexuality, sexual
problems, boredom/lack of fulfilment physical illness/pain, bereavement/loss,
low self-esteem, phobias, problems at work/college, stress, suicidal feelings,
isolation, crisis, infertility/miscarriage, parenting, anger, self-loathing,
feelings of failure, feeling wrong and bad, economic difficulties, existential
crises, issues about being foreign, being a refugee, drugs and alcohol
I am also able
to refer on if the individual's needs require specialist care, a particular
working environment or an expertise I am unable to provide.
codes of ethics
I adhere to the UKCP code of ethics and am a
professional member of the BACP. I am UKCP accredited through the School
of Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regent’s College and have also trained at
the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling with Emmy van Deurzen.
